About Futures

A futures contract is an agreement to buy or sell a financial instrument at a predetermined price and time in the future.

Futures contracts have a limited lifespan, meaning they have pre-set open and expiration dates. At the time of expiration, all open positions in the old contract will close. We automatically roll over positions to the next contract in case you keep open your positions. If you don’t desire to maintain an open position on the underlying instrument, you’ll need to close it before a new contract is available. Usually, one week prior the new contract is available the old contract is set to close only mode until it gets expired. In case you wish to carry forward your positions to the next contract, however you don’t have sufficient margin then during expiration old contract will close as normal and then new contract will immediately open and close and you will end up loss only from the spread or not even opened because of insufficient margin. In case you wish to carry forward your positions to the next contract, and you have sufficient margin then during expiration old contract will close as normal and then new contract will immediately open. However, if the spread in the new contract opens afterwards cause your margin level to drop below 50% then the new position will close, so you must always have sufficient funds.
